Did you read the text?

David Chapman 2014-08-15

Did you read the text, or just look at the picture?

This page is a chapter of a novel. It is a work of fiction. In this chapter, the hero comes to resent Lord Buddha, because he has been taught a narrow, judgmental, distorted version of Buddhism by his foster-mother. The picture at the head of the page is the sort of juvenile caricature a kid in that position might produce.

This is a Buddhist novel. The hero is a Buddhist. I, the author, am a Buddhist. I am not insulting Buddhism. Fiction is not reality.

WHY ARE YOU INSULTING LORD

Fundamentalism

David Chapman 2014-10-05

These comments are interesting as demonstrations of ignorant Buddhist fundamentalism, but are probably going to get tiresomely repetitious. I’m turning commenting off for this page only now.

A blog post in reply

After getting continuing comments and emails about this image, even after closing comments here, I reflected on what they might mean.

I’ve written a blog post about that: Death threats from offended Buddhists.
